When you spend most of your time sitting on a chair every day, your butt starts to look like the seat of the chair you sit on. It is called office chair butt.
On a desk job, you are in the same situation which is mentioned above. So the chances of having an office butt are high because you are spending most of your time at your desk, sitting on your chair. Fortunately, there are ways to avoid that.
Following are some tips to avoid office chair butt:
1. Pick a Good Ergonomic Chair
This is probably the most important thing to do. As you spend more than third of your existing at an office chair, it is recommended to make sure that it is as comfortable as it possible. Buying an ergonomic chair is the first thing you should do.
We can help you with your chair problem. You don’t have to spend a lot to buy a great chair. If you want to save more, you can buy a used chair. We offer new and used office furniture at reasonable prices. From us, you can buy a chair with an adjustable height to get a good lower back support and feel more comfortable at work.
2. Don’t sit in the same position for hours
This is the second most important thing. According to study, a prolonged spinal health is guaranteed by consistently altering your work environment, for example moving around, changing sitting position, standing when possible, etc. Just don’t sit in the same position continuously for hours.
3. Set a reminder to get up and move
If you tend to forget due to load of work, then it’s a good idea to set a reminder; an alarm for every twenty minutes or so, to get up and move. You can squeeze you butt, stretch your body, or do some neck rolls, shoulder rolls, or twists. If you work in a cubicle, you can try couch stretching every once in a while. Just two minutes of couch stretching will help you open up your hips.
4. Work for an Allotted Time – Then Get Up
It’s another practical tip to avoid office butt. You can break your work schedule into short workable chunks, separated by breaks, and get up and move around in those breaks. You can also take a 15 minutes’ walk during your lunch break. Moving your legs while sitting is also a good idea.
5. Take Phone Calls and Meetings Standing Up
When you are sitting all day at your work desk and then head to a meeting, the last thing you want to do is take a seat there. Attend meetings standing up if you can. Furthermore, take the stairs when going to the meeting, or moving around in the office, don’t use the lift.
Additionally, make a habit of taking phone calls standing up. It will work as a reminder to get up every now and then.
There are a lot more things you can do to avoid office butt, just keep in mind that the moral of the story is to sit less and move more.
